Teacher Spotlight
Andreya’s journey with Pottery began in 2002 as a sophomore in high school. She took Ceramics I and never looked back. In fact she didn’t go to a lot of other classes after that - since then she has continued her journey with Clay. Wheel throwing has grounded her in some of the most challenging times of her life from an abused, depressed, misunderstood sophomore in high school to an adult woman, 20 years later, grieving the loss of her closest friend in an unfamiliar city. Cut to a new start in a new city, Las Vegas, reclaiming her life and her power. Ceramics helped her physically see her power when she felt the most powerless- as an artist and a teacher.
Ceramics has also always provided a safe, emotional space to be who Andreya truly is and celebrate the magic and creativity that comes straight from her heart and hands. It’s in her DNA-as a Panamanian woman finding out that the oldest Pottery ever found at an archaeological site in Panama blew her mind. Andreya has taken classes with Hsin-Cheun Lin, Anthony Urango and 12th generation master Kato Hiroshige, and worked as the dry goods manager and bottler for Clay Planet/ Western Glazes, in San Jose, California. That time expanded her knowledge of clay making as well as glaze mixing. Her specialty is bowls of all sizes, but many forms come naturally. She really enjoys teaching people that their intentions transform their actions, which informs what they create. Imperfection is a part of the process.
